Happy New Year. We QUIT!
Categories: Labelfucker, Tunez, Video

First of all we wish you a Happy New Year and only the best for 2012.

has been an institution in Moscows party scene for the past 4 years. While we have experimented with different music genres, we were most successful with and later on we changed to a mix of and handselected hits. Commercial stuff, indeed. But we never played David Guetta and the alike, but the hits we actually liked ourselves, along with some evergreens.

When we started our first YUM YUM parties at Solyanka 4 years ago, mashups were something new and cool. Especially the stuff we played, groovy funky oldschool, mixed with modern hits, partly produced (mashed up) by our own DJs and friends. Things have changed in the meantime. Mashups became trendy and most of them are trash. We were asked to play trash at the end. Asked by you and the owners of the bars and clubs we worked with. Many of you run to places, like Rolling Stone or Gipsy, where they play this commercial plastic music (most of the times). Go ahead. No problem, if you like it. We don’t like this music and it even made us not like mashups ourselves anymore.

Something needs to change and we decided to QUIT! Nope. We are not quitting Labelfucker, because its who we are and more of a statement, than brand in Moscows nightlife. We are quitting pop, hits and commercial mashups. Its been enough and its not going to last. New York is tired of it already. Berlin as well. Its just a matter of time, until its done in . That along with commercial house and even minimal and tech-house. On a recent birthday party of a nightlife figure, where you could find Moscows most trendy promoters and DJs, everybody was wondering, why there are not so many people going out anymore and they prefer to hang out in bars, restaurants or stay at home. We think, its because there are too many places now (compared to 4 years ago) and everybody is doing the same (commercial shit). Things need to change and everybody is looking for the next big thing.

So Labelfucker moves on. We have found, what we believe is the next big thing in terms of music. Now we are looking for the right location to play it and we’ll get back to you with some nice and cool parties soon. What we play now at home or at our small sesssions at Paparazzi, is already rocking the dancefloors of New Yorks trendy rooftops and even considered, the next big thing (exchanging the minimal) in Berlin. DFA’s New Years Eve party at The Standard, was sold out and filled to the top with celebrities and cool people. They played, what we favor as well these days. We must know, because one of the nights DJs was our friend. Another 2 famous DJs in Berlin are telling us the same. We are not sure, how long it will take until this movement finally arrives in Moscow, but we won’t wait. Let’s play it. Let’s change. This is the next big thing and you are either with us or just stay with the plastic. Be a first mover or stay behind. Be trendy or just a follower. We don’t care. We never did. No matter, if we will be known as the guys who played this music first (as we played Mashups first in Moscow, no matter what others say), we are on it. Because we like it and its where our soul and heart lays, these days.

We’ll do less parties in 2012. In cooler locations and we will not play Mashups anymore. What we think is the next big thing, doesn’t even have a name yet. Some call it Slow-House. Others Disco Edits. Our friends in New York call it: Underground Pop. I’m sure in a year from now, there will be a name defining this genre, but for now its too early. Come check out this new music, when our new resident Stefan (from Stockholm) or are spinning it. At the time being, we’ll do small “try out” sessions at Paparazzi. Almost every , but to be sure, check this website or Facebook.

Again, Happy New Year 2012. May it be a good one for all of us. We hope to see many of you at our new Labelfucker parties soon.

And here are some sample tunes. Check our Youtube playlist!
